Oracle's Software Configuration Manager version 10.1.2.5
with forms version 10.1.2.3.0:

Is this what everybody is using to manage their forms development?

If not, what are developers using for Forms 10g version control?

I've installed this software. I'm using the Oracle XE database for this repository.
At least for running through the tutorial to figure out how this is to work.

I have to say that I am frustrated that I cannot compare one version of a form to another version of the same fmb.

I get a java null pointer exception. I have uninstalled the repository using RAU, then recreated it using the RAU. I'm using version control and defining a "large" repository type
for more than 10 developers.

I still get the infamous java null pointer exception on form compares.

What am I doing wrong?
Thanks,

Kevin

What are shops using for version control of their forms development?

Just manually keeping track on a spreadsheet or other?
Thanks,

Kevin

We used PVCS and then CVS.
You can use version labels to mark specific versions of the application.
Neither of those tools allows you to compare versions of forms however since they are binary files, for that we had to get a seperate product - can't remember what it's called, don't use forms these days - but you can find several on the web.

We are just using sccs in unix. It's sufficient.

Hi,

Can you explain what you mean by "version labels"?

Is that like a parameter name/value?
Thanks

It's like a flag attached to a specific version of a file.
Whenever we do a release we tell PVCS to add a specific version label which identifies the release to the current version of each file. Then you can extract versions of files from PVCS using that label, you don't need to know what the specific version number of each file is.
CVS does the same.

Look at FormsTool at http://www.orcl-toolbox.com/ for a forms compare utility.
